Having spent 12 years teaching Science, Colin managed a research project at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne between 1986 and 1990 while studying for a second degree. The central theme of this research was to explore the design, production and application of multimedia as an effective means of learning and communication.

In 1990, he was a co-founder and Managing Director of Interactive Learning Productions (ILP) of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. ILP produced multimedia programmes for a wide range of prestigious clients from around the world, as well as creating a large number of generic products for the open market.

By leaving ILP, Colin was able to establish his own company, SMS, as a vehicle to make his considerable experience and expertise in multimedia design and production available to a wider audience. With over fifteen years in the industry and over 100 multimedia products to his name it would be difficult to find anyone with a better understanding of multimedia and its applications.
