Phonological Awareness Series Disc 1: Listening & Rhyming detailsPhonological awareness is the knowledge of sounds in words and the ability to manipulate them. Research has indicated that children who have poor phonological awareness skills are at risk of reading and spelling difficulties. Rhyming is one aspect of phonological awareness. This disc aims to help develop a child's awareness of rhyme with activities to help rhyme judgement detection and production. The listening section of the disc aims to increase awareness of everyday sounds and encourages attention and concentration. This disc provides assistance for both special educational needs and classroom support staff. Its flexibility also allows for the preparation of IEPs. The activities are designed to change with each visit so that the pupils can't simply remember the answers. All of the images have been drawn specifically for this resource and can be downloaded seperately so that individual worksheets and games can be created to suit each individual.
