Special Children November/December 2004
"Another product that the children loved. It is an interactive CD-ROM designed for Early Years and Special Educational Needs across the age ranges. Again we used it with pupils aged from 4 to 7 who all have Speech and Language impairment. It has a range of six activities that focus on listening skills and rhyming." "The listening activities include nursery rhymes and identifying and using common sounds. The sounds used include animal, people, household, outside and vehicle sounds in a range of settings: house, garden, town, farm and seaside. The rhyming activities include finding missing rhymes, finding the odd one out and matching. Each activity has lively, colourful characters and catchy music and is engaging and fun. The activities aid the development of concentration, listening and auditory discrimination skills as well as the computer skills listed above." "Developing listening skills and concentration is an integral feature of most classrooms and this CD-ROM is a useful tool in that area. In addition rhyming underpins a range of literacy skills and this is a most child friendly way of raising awareness of rhyming and of practising skills." "When we first used this in class I said that I hoped they would produce another disc as good as this and they have, as Disc2: Syllabification is now also available. We can highly recommend this first of this series and we will be investigating the second one as well." |
